From Pastor Chuck:
I heard today that some people are still wondering what happened to the live stream of yesterday's 11 a.m. worship. The electricity went out about two minutes into the service, and didn't come back on until well after we ended.
And yes, we continued to worship, the sanctuary and our hymnals illuminated by the sun shining through our stained glass and clerestory windows. Several worshipers commented on how much they enjoyed it.
Something I mentioned during announcements Sunday: We have some significant openings for skilled music volunteers.
In particular, we are looking for people who would be comfortable playing hymns on the piano. Virginia Martin, our organist, also tells me a trained piano player can, in a limited way, play the organ, helping us to retain that sound in our worship.
Pianist Gail Brown and Virginia both are welcome to play as much as they want, but people do get sick, go on vacation or otherwise sometimes just need a rest. We are grateful to Kathryn Bowden for filling in at the piano Sunday.
We simply need a deeper bench of people willing to serve at the organ or piano. If you're interested, let me know.
There's another area where we need help, this one suited for people with technical abilities. Robbie Stapleton, who runs our live stream computer and cameras, needs some backup, too. He is willing to train people in the use of the computer and cameras, rotating the job from time to time so others have experience. Again, if you're interested, just let me know.
Men, remember our second-Saturday breakfast is 9 a.m. this Saturday, Aug. 8.
I am praying we all have a blessed week. Let's remember to pray for each other.
