From Pastor Chuck:
Looks like we are getting some real fall weather this week! I want to cover five important items in this news article today: Our debt-elimination campaign, this weekend's Fall Festival, a parade float, a new Sunday school for young adults, and a celebration of what's happening in our CrossClub children's ministry.
If you weren't here this past Sunday, you missed our roll out of "Ice the Debt," our effort for the next month to make the church debt-free. (You also may have missed some wonderful worship and the initial distribution of our new church directories.) Ron Carter did a great job of telling us the story of how our north wing came about, and the tremendous effort that has been made the last couple of decades to reduce our debt from an initial $1.4 million to about $284,000.

Our Fall Festival is this Sunday! We will gather from 3 to 5 p.m. at the church for a hot dog dinner, treats, games, a cake walk, candy and a costume parade. Keep those costumes church-friendly and fun, not scary! Invite friends, particularly if they have children. You can even bring a carved pumpkin to enter in a contest!
The Gate City Christmas Parade will be 7-8:30 p.m. Dec. 6, and some of the men in our church have decided to build a float for Holston View Methodist. If you think this sounds like fun and you want to help with the planning and execution, come to the church at 9 a.m. this Saturday. The team will meet downstairs in the fellowship hall.
We are forming a new Sunday school class for young adults. Nick Henderson and I will lead it. Right now, we plan to meet in one of the downstairs rooms of the Darnell Ministry Center. Our first gathering will be at 9:45 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 16. We will take a couple of weeks to get to know each other, and then we thought we might launch into an Advent study together. The season of Advent begins Nov. 30.
Let's celebrate what's happening on Thursday nights at CrossClub. Last week, we had 22 children present, many of them who are without church homes. It is so good to see this new ministry taking off in such a wonderful way. If you want to support CrossClub with time or resources, be sure to talk to Karen Peace about what's going on there.
Blessings on you all!
Pastor Chuck
