From Pastor Chuck:

After the busy-ness before Easter, followed by two weeks of vacation, I figured I should update everyone ... perhaps even myself ... about what's going on at Holston View.

This Saturday (May 10) the Methodist Men meet at 9 a.m. in the fellowship hall. It's doughnuts and devotion time this month. I'm sure we'll also talk about some upcoming service and outreach opportunities, too.

Don't forget, Sunday is Mother's Day! As we worship, we will hear about the tremendous power God has granted the church. We are left with a question: How do we learn to use what God has granted us generation after generation?

I am starting a new outreach ministry this coming Monday. I have practiced karate for more than 40 years and have many friends who are fellow practitioners in the area. We are going to start having karate classes with very distinct Christian messages on Monday nights, an early class for children, and a later one for adults. I have done this at previous appointments with much success. By that, I mean success in bringing people into a relationship with Jesus Christ.

This flyer is self-explanatory, I hope. Feel free to download it and share it with others.

Don't forget, we continue to take up a special offering in support of our upcoming Vacation Bible School. We already have had some very generous gifts! We want to be sure we have all the resources we need as we offer Christ to children in our community.

And finally, a word about our 6 p.m. Wednesday night prayer time. We began this for those of you who expressed a desire to grow into the kind of disciples who help make new disciples. (Remember the "Check D" cards?) In my opinion, a prayer gathering like this is the only real starting point. We should begin any discipleship journey with prayer and discernment. Take that from a guy who has jumped into too many efforts without enough prayer.

The Wednesday night time works for some, but if we need to consider additional such gatherings on different days and times, perhaps even in people's homes, let me know. I am always happy to form more such groups.

Blessings on you all.
